Prof. Dr. Ir. Suhardiyanto Herry, M. Sc, from Banjarnegara of Central Java, started his career as a lecturer in the Department of Agriculture (formerly called Department of Agricultural Mechanization), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University in 1981. Born on September 10, 1959, with hard-working personality, he successfully completed a degree in Agricultural Mechanization Department, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University in 1981. He completed his Master degree in Kochi University of Japan in 1991. In 1994 he acquired a PhD in agricultural engineering from Ehime University, Japan.
Dedication to IPB became more demanding when he was appointed to serve as the Second Vice Dean of Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University in 1999-2003. The trust of the university did not end there. In 2003 he was appointed to take the position as the Second Vice Rector of Bogor Agricultural University. At a fairly young age, 48 years, he was elected as the 13th Rector of Bogor Agricultural University.
The agricultural engineering that he has been seriously engaged in has made him a Professor. His scientific oral speech delivered in 2009 was entitled “Innovation and Technology of Plant House and Hydroponics for Tropical Wet Climate to Increase Competitiveness of Horticulture.” Dozens of scientific publications on topics of the plant house technology (green house) and hydroponics have been produced.
Since 2008 until now, he has served as the Commissioner of PT. Perkebunan Negara (PTPN) VIII and as a Guiding Council of Educational Institution of Plantation (LPP) in Yogyakarta. His wife, Mrs. Eni Rohaeni and four sons and daughters have been his special motivations in his steps of holding the position as Rector of Bogor Agricultural University for the period of 2007 to 2012.
